John Bradford has been successful in business and politics at both local and national levels. John graduated from Sydney University in 1968 with a degree in Economics. He later completed a Graduate Diploma in Education. John was a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants until he relinquished membership in 2005.
After University John was conscripted into the Australian Army. He was selected to attend the Officer Training Unit, Scheyville and graduated as a Second Lieutenant and was later promoted to Lieutenant whist on active duty in Vietnam.
Returning from Vietnam in 1970 John entered the retail industry where he was promoted to senior executive levels. In 1972/73 he was seconded to the Emporium Department store in San Francisco in the USA for specialised training.
After retiring from the Commonwealth Parliament in 1998 after serving 9 years as member for McPherson, John with his wife Judy and 3 children embarked upon 5 years of overseas missionary service. This included Mongolia, the USA and UK where John had the responsibility of leadership in a major Christian medical charity which focussed on Central America and West Africa.
Returning to the Gold Coast in mid 2004 John was appointed Mission Development Director for the Bible Society Australia (Queensland) where he had responsibility for major donor development. Until February 2008 he also broadcast regularly on community radio station 4CRB as a political commentator. In March 2008 John stood for Mayor of the Gold Coast City but was not successful. He now plans to retire from politics.
John is highly regarded as a public speaker, communicator and motivator. He has proven to be successful in conducting negotiations in complex and sensitive situations.
